民国初年，平津一带有两个红伶，一是文武小生秋汉堂，一是坤伶罗香琦，他们在台上经常扮演一对，感情深厚，准备不久便结为夫妻。阮宝帆是个大军阀，当他看到罗香琦美貌绝伦，登时神为之夺。阮宝帆太太虽多却无半男一女，当香琦诞下一女，阮以买来一子换去此女。十几年后其女梅宝已亭亭玉立，且因卖唱认识表兄罗绍华，遂得与母香琦相认……。The plot introduces us to a psychologist who suggests to three couples that they engage in a group session, where they will have to analyse each other without her being present.
